Something I Fell Upon
You might not have heard of it but it's sweeping the world. From Korea to France, England, and the United States. What do you have to do? Type k-pop into Youtube. Not exactly how I found it but it works just as well.Korea is taking the pop sensation and rejuvenating it to something else. They add cool new beats and better light shows to give it a sound we can't get enough. Plus the groups perform tricks and flips themslves instead of hiring stunt people.
That last video was a just two guys from the group Super Junior having fun. I thought the Afros were hilarious.
K-Pop
K-pop (Korean: 가요, Gayo) (an abbreviation of Korean pop or Korean popular music) is a musical genre consisting of pop, dance, electropop, hip hop, rock, R&B, electronic music originating in South Korea. In addition to music, K-pop has grown into a popular subculture among teenagers and young adults around the world, resulting in widespread interest in the fashion and style of Korean idol groups and singers. Through the presence of Facebook fan pages, availability on iTunes, Twitter profiles, and music videos on YouTube, the ability of K-pop to reach a previously inaccessible audience via the Internet is driving a change in the exposure and popularity of the genre. South Korean popular culture is today serving as a major driver of youth culture all across the Pacific Rim, with special reference to China, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
A Favorite of Mine
This video is actually Japanese. Its lyrics are about gathering together and dancing under the the streetlight. Then for fun it just has Pon and Way thrown in.The music of Japan includes a wide array of performers in distinct styles both traditional and modern. The word for music in Japanese is 音楽 (ongaku), combining the kanji 音 ("on" sound) with the kanji 楽 ("gaku" music). Japan is the second largest music market in the world, behind the United States, and the largest in Asia, and most of the market is dominated by Japanese artists. Local music often appears at karaoke venues, which is on lease from the record labels. Traditional Japanese music is quite different from Western Music and is based on the intervals of human breathing rather than mathematical timing. In 1873, a British traveler claimed that Japanese music, "exasperate[s] beyond all endurance the European breast."
